राष्ट्रभाषा पर विचार in the more elevated poems of Souda, Wulee, Meerdurd, and others, and in the effe- cted pompous, pedantic language of literature and politics, the first is predominant and leans to Arabic and Persian agreeable to circum- stances. The elegy of Miskeen, the satires of Souda, Hindoostanee Tales, and the Articles of War in the Oriental Linguist, the speech of well. bred Hindoostanee Monshees and servants are the best specimens I can recollect of the middle style while the 3rd or Hinduwee is evident in Mr. Fostor's unaffected translations of the Regulations of Government, in all or the grea- test part of Hindoostanee composition written in the Nagree character, in the dialect of the lower order of servants and Hindoos, as well as among the peasantry of Hindoostan...... The Preference which I give the middle style over the others must appear in every page of my works, as it is in truth central regulator or tongue by which we perceive the ascending and descending scales on either side."
