The report states that one lady was so disgusted at the eating of the viper's head that she abruptly left the hall before the exhibition was finished. I do not know how you look at such exhibitions. In my opinion they are degrading both for the demonstrator, as also for the public. And if the demonstrator died, as he most likely would, if these demon- strations were continued, those who encouraged him by attending them, I should hold guilty of manslaughter. I do not think that either science or humanity is served by such revolting exhibitions. The text books on Hatha Yoga clearly lay down that the Hathayogis are expected not to exhibit their yogic powers or make use of them for pur- poses of gain. If you agree with me, will you not initiate an agitation in the daily press for preventing such cruel exhibition ? One man, I suppose, you know, recently died in Rangoon precisely giving demonstrations such as the one reported in Bombay. Yours sincerely, M. K. Gandhi प्रिय भाभी नटराजन, गोकुलदास तेजपाल अस्पतालमें खास तौर पर बुलासी गयी सभामें अक हिन्दुस्तानी योगीने अपनी सिद्धियोंका जो प्रदर्शन किया, असका समाचार आपने जरूर पढ़ा होगा । समाचारमें यह है कि यह योगी जीते साँपका सिर, कीलें और नाअिट्रिक अॅसिड वगैरा चीजें खा गया । सभामें हाअिकोर्टके प्रधान न्यायाधीश और अनकी पत्नी विशेष दर्शक थे । कहते हैं कि जब वह योगी जिन्दा साँपका सिर खाने लगा, तो अक बहनको तो अितनी ज्यादा घिन हुी कि वह सभासे अचानक झुठकर चली गयीं। मुझे पता नहीं कि आपका अिन प्रयोगोंके बारेमें क्या खयाल है। मेरी राय तो यह है कि यह चीज करके दिखानेवाले और देखनेवाले दोनोंको गिरानेवाली है । अगर वह योगी अपने असे प्रयोग जारी रखेगा, तो वह जरूर मरेगा । और अगर वह अिस तरह मर जायगा, तो जिन दर्शकोंने वहाँ मौजूद रह कर असे असे प्रयोग करनेका प्रोत्साहन दिया, अन्हें मैं नर-हत्याके अपराधी मानूँगा । जैसे घिनौने प्रयोगोंसे न तो विज्ञानकी सेवा होती है और न मानवताकी । हठयोगकी पुस्तकोंमें साफ लिखा है कि हठयोगियोंको अपनी प्राप्त सिद्धियाँ न तो करके दिखानी चाहिये और न झुनका झुपयोग रुपया कमानेके लिओ ही करना चाहिये । अगर आप मुझसे १२२०
