लॉर्ड ऐमहर्ट १०५७ अंगरेज़ी सेना को रामू की पहाड़ी से पीछे भाग कर कई महीने भदरपुर में पड़ा रहना पड़ा। इतिहास महा बन्दूला की लेखक विलसन लिखता है कि यदि बरमी सना- रंगून वापसी " पति महा बन्दूला उस समय अपनी विजयी सेना सहित आगे बढ़ पाता तो शायद कलकत्ते और बङ्गाल को विजय कर लेना उसके लिए अधिक कठिन न होता। किन्तु अंग. रेजों के सौभाग्य से बन्दूला को उसी समय अपने महाराजा की प्राशा के अनुसार बजाय आगे बढ़ने के अपनी अधिकांश सेना सहित रंगून की ओर चला जाना पड़ा। कम्पनी सरकार के पाम भारत के नरेशों और भारतीय प्रजा से कमाए हुए धन की कमी न थी। और अधिक सेनाएँ, " The fidelity of our native army, on which our existence depends, depends itself on our continued success " The Burmans have cominenced the war wth us in a manner which perhaps was little expected They have the advantage of first success, and we have the disadvantage of disaster, which is likely, . to be of worse consequence to us than it would be to any other power in the world, . . " . . the progress of the enemy has carried alarm toDacca and even to Calcutta, where alarm has not been felt from an external enemy since the time ot Sirajadoula and the Black Hole " Our enemies appear not to be deficient in either spirit or numbers, . there is real danger to our whole Empire in India The intelligence spreads like wild fire, and immediately excites the hopes and speculations of the millions whom we hold in subjugation . . .
